The Water Supply and Sanitation Technology Platform - WSSTP

WSSTP is a technology platform that was set up within the European Environmental Technology Action Plan (ETAP, adopted by the European Commission in 2004.

In June 2007 the Platform was reorganized as a European-wide non-profit organization open to all stakeholders involved in the European water sector and major end-user groups.

WSSTP will contribute to:

  • Solving the European water problems;

  • Reaching the Millennium Development Goals (Johannesburg).

WSSTP has focused on:

Development of a common vision for the European water sector , involving all major stakeholders

The 6 pilots focus on major challenges in terms of sustainable use of water and protection of water resources:

1.        Mitigation of water stress in coastal zones

2.        Sustainable water management inside and around large urban areas

3.        Sustainable water management for agriculture

4.        Sustainable water management for industry

5.        Reclamation of degraded water zones (surface and groundwater)

6.        Proactive and corrective management of extreme hydro-climatic events

A pilot covers research, technologies development, and a number of implementation cases. The pilots are a means to implement research and test this in a number of real-life applications.

WSSTP works through its Board of presently 7 members from industry, science and end-users. Denmark is represented in the Board, where Jørn Rasmussen, DHI, jar@dhigroup.com, represents Danish Water Forum and the science component in the platform.
