Pilot Program 2: Sustainable water management inside and around large urban areas

 

This Pilot Program consists of a number of sub-themes with different sets of activities within the overall framework of WSSTP, such as:

 

Sludge Management:

  • Creating a network of stakeholders interested in cooperation on Sludge management topics

  • Addressing a state-of-the-art on sludge management in Europe

  • Defining the needs/problems/priorities of large cities

  • Establishing first R&D proposal based on priorities of large cities

Urban Flooding:

  • Identifying potential collaborators

  • Developing potential Research projects

  • Considering potential timing of FP7 Calls

  • Participating cities are now: Aarhus, Barcelona, Berlin, Eindhoven, Genoa and Lyon, but more are welcome.

  • Examples of research areas: Integrated risk assessment on urban water systems, Optimization of systems monitoring (water quality, hydrology and hydraulics of rain events), System solutions for flood management and reduction (integrated forecasting modelling and control, online storage, individual retention)

Asset Management:

Develop Research Strategy and Common understanding of Asset Management/Strategic Asset Management terminology can be used to:

  • formulate policies on AS/SAM

  • formulate and implement AS/SAM strategies

  • develop standards and guidelines

  • support education and training
